CBD has a strong safety record in research, but that does not mean more is always better. Here is what to know about taking too much.
What research shows
The World Health Organization’s 2018 review described CBD as generally well tolerated with a good safety profile. Clinical studies have given people much larger amounts than any consumer product contains, under medical supervision.
Side effects of too much CBD
The FDA lists possible side effects of CBD, which are more likely at higher amounts:
- Drowsiness or sleepiness
- Digestive upset, such as diarrhea
- Changes in appetite
- Changes in liver enzymes, which a doctor can check with a blood test
Medication interactions
CBD is processed by the same liver enzymes that process many prescription drugs. It can change how those drugs work. If you take any medication, especially one with a grapefruit warning, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using CBD.
How to choose a serving
- Start with the serving on the label, or less.
- Use one product at a time so you know how much CBD you are taking in total.
- Choose products with a clear mg-per-serving label. Our gummies come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg strengths.
- Keep CBD products, especially gummies, out of reach of children and pets.
Check the lab report
A Certificate of Analysis confirms how much CBD is really in each serving. See how to read a CBD lab report.
